No meeting next week!

Woman's Worth:  Tuesday April 26th @ 7pm in the Busey Lounge.  Tell your friends.  Thanks Sarah Mullican for filling out the space request, we got it back.  Also, thanks to our new treasurer Caroline Morris, we have voucher requests out for the gifts we need to purchase.  We have had a few speakers already so things are really coming togeather!!!  Thanks Erika for offering to 'sponor a speaker'!
Mariama is contributing by purchasing the food, and they have already found a speaker as well.
Melanie (our RD)  has arranged for the Clothesline Project to set up a display of T-shirts that rape victums created the day of our event.  (they will be setting up in the Busey Lounge so that can be our decor..)

Updates on the DVD rentals:
We choose a cabinet then found out that the RD would like to get whatever we end up choosing to store DVD's approved by Rose who runs the front desk.  Also Rose will have to work to formulate the checkout procedure with the Front Desk Clerks which we would like to be modeled after ISR's.
I have heard back from Melanie on purchasing DVD's from fellow students and found that it would be a very difficult procedure.

Picnic Update:
I will be talking to Dining Services to pick a date (just in case ours doesnt work.)  Also  we decided that we do want to make signs.  I will be bringing the menu to our next meeting.

Next year: be talking up hall council around your friends- we need to find new officers for next year.  It is likely we will make this decision in the meeting following our next meeting.  If you are interested in a position please let me know.  I may get around to posting signs about it so other people - who are not currently involved- but may want to be- have to opportunity to run as well.

Have a great weekend & GO ILLINI!

Announcements

Meeting the Tuesday after spring break.

Thanks Sarah for putting in a room request for Woman’s worth (don’t forget a table for food and trash cans)

IMPORTANT: please help out the publicity committee by creating a fun flier for Woman’s Worth.   Bring them to our next meeting, they can be done on the computer or by hand- have fun with this over break! EVERYONE needs to contribute, have a friend make one too if you want!

-          fliers MUST include:  Date of event, time & location (Tuesday, April 26th, 7pm, Busey Lounge,)  The title of the event, (Woman’s Worth) and a little about what its about (forum on the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of woman, or any other way YOU want to say it (ie. Discussion, healing time, learning, sharing )

-          fliers can include stuff about “free food”  speakers/facilitators from the community, rape hotline, police, etc,  facts about the amount of abuse that occurs on campus, % of women who have been raped, 1 in 4 stats, etc…

-          I will be printing them up in color – so make them as bright as you want J

-          Have fun with it!

<>Meeting Notes
-        Ashley Walls came and distributed Girls Gone Wild forms, event will take place at 10am April 2nd, $5 fee, goes to crisis Nursery
<>-          No Meeting Next Tuesday (March 15th)
-
Signed Alan’s Thank you Card
-
DVD Rentals:  thanks to the girls who asked around.  General concensus for the dorms is that they number the dvd’s which makes it easier to add more, and keep a list for people to chose their movie from,  rent the movie for four hours, $2 deposit as well a form of ID,  If you rent after 11 you have to return it before 9am <>o       Nicole reported used DVD’s were usually priced between $7-9 (thanks Nicole)
-
Woman’s Worth: date picked- Tuesday, April 26th at 7pm

o       WHY? Interesting to learn others views, experiences, healing process for those that have been affected, learning process for those that have not.  Very likely that it will happen to one of our friends, or already has and we just don’t know it.  It’s not just about sexual abuse or rape, but about emotional and physical as well.

o       Joint event with Mariama

§         Mariama will be in charge of getting the food, and a few speakers, they will try to find people who will speak and will help post signs

§         Hall Council will be in charge of getting a few speakers, and gifts for those speakers, and advertising and posting signs

o       If anyone is interested in sharing their experience just send me an email.  You can read a poem, tell your story, share artwork, have someone else read something you have written about your experience etc..

<>          o       Advertising:  all Hall Council girls will create a poster,     print it, and  bring it to the next meeting.  We will pick the best few to share, if they are all good – then we will use them all.  Please save what you have made             on your computer or we can scan it in if you use paper and markers…

-
End of the Year Picnic

o       Date chosen:  day before reading day, May 4th

o       Minimal amount of work needed, just advertising a little and work with dining services to create a menu.

<>-          BSW appreciation: create cards for the janitorial staff here at BE- coming in April.

Below is the list & location for those that offered to hang posters.  THANK YOU SOOO SOOO SOOO MUCH J  We want all of our events to be a success and this one in particular requires a lot of advertising.  (Don’t forget to tell all your guy friends) <>

NEXT MEETING: TUESDAY, FEB 22. our next meeting will be a big one.  We will have some pretty important decisions to make regarding the budget, as well as picking out some patio furniture (yes its happening
) The RD will be there and we may also discuss the plans for the MPRoom.   There will be a presentation on the upcoming “girls gone wild” and of course- a detailed description of what will be happening for speed dating.  I KNOW this is a busy week for all of you but PLEASE give me at max 45 minutes of your time.  We will be having pop ß which is my way of providing incentive… is it working??<>

POSTER STUFF

I will put posters in your mailboxes if you volunteered (sometime today).  Some are colored some are just black and white.  Be sure to hang the colored ones in the more common areas.  Take sticky tack and a stapler with you.  Many dorms have bulletin boards for ‘upcoming events.’

If you do not have a way of getting into the dorm, be sure you go before 7 when the main doors are unlocked.  You may ask the front desk to put fliers in RA’s mailboxes. If you have friends there- you can have them escort(and help you hang the posters) around the dorm.   Try if you can to put the posters up this weekend.  Although I gave you all your own set of posters- feel free to contact the other person who will be hanging at your location and hang together

<>Six Pack:  Jane Stremming  If anyone else can help Jane that would be AWESOME- just let me know!

ISR:  Sarah Richards & Erika Hawkins

ALLEN/LAR:  Carolyn Howarter & Caryn Lichtenberg

PAR/FAR:  Sarah Mullican & Caroline Morris

THANKS AGAIN!
